It’s one thing to drive through East Texas. It’s quite another thing to see it from the air. We took our drone to fly over Harrison County looking for incredible scenery.
Some Harrison County facts…
According to the 2010 census, 65,631 people call the county home.
Named for Jonas Harrison, a Texas revolutionary and a lawyer, it was created in 1842.
Once established, the county became one of the largest and richest counties in pre-Civil-War Texas. In 1846, parts of the county were split off to help form Panola and Upshur counties.
There’s only 16 square miles of water.
Marshall is the county seat and home to a terrific history museum inside the historic courthouse.
Other cities and communities include: Hallsville, Scottsville, Uncertain, Waskom and parts of Longview.
Some famous celebrities hail from this East Texas county including members of the Tuskegee Airmen, George Foreman and Lady Bird Johnson.
The Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge contains a flooded bald cypress forest with trees estimated to be 400 years old.
