Let’s face it. It’s hot outside. It’s a typical Ark-La-Tex summer and in 2020, the Coronavirus closed or limited our ability to do fun things outside and inside. As movie theaters begin to reopen, we know that everyone may not feel safe enough to venture out. So we put together this list of summertime movies to watch. So sit back and relax in the comfort of your own home.

Lawrence of Arabia (1962 – PG, 3 hr 48 min)

You shall not watch this film for the sweeping desert landscapes… (No.) for the memorable score… (No!) nor the seven Academy Awards it won… You will watch because it is your pleasure. This World War I epic focuses on the controversial life of T.E. Lawrence in Arabia.

Do the Right Thing (1989, R 2h)

Not only are the temperatures rising in Brooklyn, so is hatred and bigotry in the neighborhood. This Spike Lee masterpiece raises several points and questions that resonate to this day.

The Seven Year Itch (1955, 1 hr 45 min)

Set in a hot summer in New York City, this comedy focuses on a husband who stays at home while his family vacations away from the heat. But an upstairs neighbor leads the husband to question his fidelity. Plus, the movie shows one of Marilyn Monroe’s most iconic scenes.

A feel good comedy about ice hockey. One small town hosts the NHL New York Rangers for an exhibition game and the town pulls together to make it happen.

Finding the love of your life and starting a family can be hard. But try doing it in Antarctica. Follow penguins as they search for a mate and see life near the South Pole.

Stay on the edge of your seat for this film. While mending a broken leg, a photographer thinks a neighbor might have committed murder one summer afternoon. Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock masterfully weaves this thriller.

Friday the 13th (1980, R, 1 hr 35 min)

As a group of counselors reopen a summer camp, they experience the terror and murder by a mask wearing killer. It’s a murder mystery that lives on through numerous sequels to this day.
