Mudbug Madness Returns for 2021

Yes!!! It's back!

It’s been too long since people converged on Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport to party, listen to music and eat crawfish. Lots and LOTS of crawfish. Now after a year’s absence, Mudbug Madness comes back in 2021. From the afternoon of Friday, May 28, to Sunday, May 30, 2021, fans of crawfish can pull up a chair and feast on this Louisiana specialty while listening to great music.

Terri Mathews, Chairman of Mudbug Madness, says that it was disappointing to cancel last year but this year will be better than ever. Of course you’ll find enough mudbugs to eat. Mathews states that they cook up 80,000 pounds of the little buggers. Don’t worry if you don’t care for mudbugs. There’s plenty of food stalls that serve culinary treats other than crawfish. Serious mudbug master eaters can sign up for the traditional Crawfish Eating Contests.  Friday will be the Celebrity Challenge. Saturday it’s the Men’s Crawfish Eating Contest. Sunday is reserved for the Women’s Crawfish Eating Contest.

While feasting, you’ll be treated to incredible music. Here are a few of the headliners coming to Shreveport. Click here to see the full schedule.

  • Seratones
  • Southern Roots
  • Acadien Cajun Band
  • CJ Chenier
  • Jimmy Wooten
  • Lost Bayou Ramblers
  • Wayne Toups
  • Sister Hazel

For those still concerned about Covid-19, Mathews says that steps are being taken to make sure the event is safe. See more about their health and safety guidelines here.

One of the programs expanding in 2021 during Mudbug Madness is the CONTERRA Networks Cornhole Tournament. Three tournaments happen during the festival. Friday afternoon is the Business Challenge. Local businesses can sign up a team. Winners will donate their prize money to a charity of their choosing. Saturday afternoon features the “Bring Your Own Partner” where you and a friend compete. Sunday is “Luck of the Draw” where you will be paired with another player for the competition. No professional players allowed to participate.

Wait! There’s more! Shop local artists and vendors and let the kids play in their own area during the festivities. And yes, the Crawfish Calling Contest returns. How do you call a crawfish?

It’s going to be a whole lot of fun at Mudbug Madness. Don’t miss it.
