Celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of Louisiana's most treasured films.

Can you believe it’s been 30 years since the release of Steel Magnolias? Neither can we. Natchitoches plans to celebrate with a very special Blush and Bashful Weekend. Festivities ran from Thursday, November 7 until Thursday, November 14. If you’re a fan, take a look at schedule…


Armadillo Cake Contest – 2:00 pm – NSU Columns Cafe (NSULA Family & Consumer Sciences Building, Room 225).


Steel Magnolias Premiere – 6:00 pm – Parkway Cinema (1011 Keyser Ave.) once again holds a premiere like it did in 1986. Walk the Red Carpet. Meet and greet extras from the film. Snack on Armadillo Cake and punch. Tickets for Friday’s shows are only $5. Movie screenings all weekend.


Tour of homes and sites – 9:00 am to 4:00 pm – Put on by The Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches.

Natchitoches Film Trail announcement – 9:00 am – Natchitoches Welcome Center on Front Street.

Easter Egg Hunt – 10:00 am – Beau Jardin on Front Street hosts an Easter Egg Hunt just like the famous scene in the movie.

Steel Magnolias Movie Panel Discussion – 2:00 pm – Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame on Front Street hosts screenwriter Robert Harling for a discussion about the film.

Character Look-a-like Conetst – 4:30 pm – Cane River Lakefront

Dolly Look-a-like Contest – 8:00 pm – Cane River Brewing Company (108 Mill St.)


St. Augustine Catholice Church Mass – 10:30 am – 2250 LA 484, Natchez, La. – See the church from the film and celebrate mass.

Blush & Bashful Brunch – 11:00 am – Prud’homme-Rouquier House (446 Jefferson St.)

Steel Magnolias has become an important part of the community. Ask anyone living in Natchitoches about it and you see them fill with pride.
