Charlotte Motor Speedway has put up more than four million LED lights throughout the property to create a holiday decorations display like no other.
More often known for hosting the high speed action of NASCAR, Charlotte Motor Speedway has put up more than four million LED lights throughout the property to create a holiday extravaganza like no other. About 3.75 miles worth of lights are on display for the Speedway Christmas lights show. You even drive on the racetrack!
It takes over a month to put up the lights and attractions with over 3,700 hours of work. Lights adorn all corners of the track even outside. Tune the radio to a local FM station and the lights are synced to the music. Past years featured a petting zoo and a Christmas Village. The Coronavirus has put a stop to the zoo and village in 2020. Visitors experience an On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, visitors enjoy a Christmas movie.
The Speedway Christmas opens the weekend before Thanksgiving and closes just after the new year. The heaviest traffic occurs on Friday and Saturday nights. For 2021, the Charlotte Speedway is closed on December 8, 9 and 25. Gate prices fluctuate depending on the day and you can reserve a ticket here.
The success of Speedway Christmas inspired the Texas Motor Speedway north of Fort Worth, Texas to create a similar holiday lights extravaganza with their Gift of Lights. Just in case, you don’t want to travel the 800+ miles to Charlotte. The dates for Texas run from Thanksgiving through January 3, 2021.
