It's the truth. Enjoy an amazing burger at this small eatery.
At an inconspicuous corner near the Red River Parish and Natchitoches Parish line sits one of the best hamburger places in the Ark-La-Tex. The Burger Shack in Fairview Alpha, La is the brainchild of 23 year old Elizabeth Foster and it is true to its name. If you drive down Campti-Coushatta Highway (US Hwy 71/84) you’ll pass the small shack on the corner of LA 507. It’s the only restaurant along the highway between Campti and Coushatta. Blink at the wrong time and you might miss it. There’s a drive-thru window and a walk up window. The only seating to enjoy a burger are two picnic benches under a covered awning. Don’t be fooled by the size though. The Burger Shack burgers coming off the grill pack a huge amount of juicy flavor.
So what makes The Burger Shack burgers so good? According to owner Elizabeth Foster, “Everything is fresh.” Each regular burger starts out as 7.4 ounces. Once pressed on the grill, the cooks pour on the special seasoning which is Dad’s recipe. Of course you can make it a cheeseburger and add bacon, grilled onions and even a fried egg. Foster’s favorite burger is the Shack Stack Burger: hamburger, lettuce and Shack Sauce (another family recipe). Each burger is cooked to order. It’s worth the wait according to fans of The Burger Shack. Thanks to them, they won the Best Burger Battle in December 2019. Pretty impressive for a restaurant that’s been around for only a few months.
Their menu also includes chicken sandwiches, a Philly Cheese Steak, a kids menu, salads, desserts and more.
Foster opened The Burger Shack in August 2019. According to her, the whole family loves burgers. Elizabeth says she started this restaurant after experiencing difficulty finding a job growing up around Fairview Alpha. Being declared deaf when she turned 2 and under going two surgeries for cochlear implants made her job search a challenge. Her grandfather owned the land with the old Red River Butane service station. The family renovated the property and built The Burger Shack. Mom helps with the business side and Dad provides the secret seasoning recipe and the Shack Sauce.
