Check out the 2020 Winners of the Best BBQ Battle!
In July of 2020, we asked the people of the Ark-La-Tex to suggest and vote on the Best BBQ Battle. Bodacious BBQ in Bossier City came out as the victor. We stopped by to find out what makes them so great. General Manager Michael Kersch sat down with us one afternoon to tell us what makes Bodacious BBQ so special. He says it takes “a long time to build a good reputation for quality service, good product, community involvement.”
For over 20 years, the Reuther family cooked up their brand of Louisiana and Ranch-style barbecue along Barksdale Boulevard in South Bossier City. Over the years, they’ve added to the original building and expanded the menu. You won’t be able to find a better mix of Texas barbecue cooking methods along with great Cajun and Creole sides. Choose from the popular brisket, ribs, chicken, ham, sausage and turkey for the meats. Their barbecue sauce contains tomato, molasses and a “Creole Texan” mix of spices from their own secret family recipe. Add a little Creole flair with the sides like red beans and rice, spicy corn on the cob and they say they have some of the best fried okra in town.
Home of the Botato
Bodacious BBQ is best known, according to them, for being the home of the “Botato.” They take a monster potato, split it open and pile on the butter, chopped beef and cheese. A side of sour cream comes with this simple yet delicious dish. It’s perfect for those on the go or don’t have a lot of time for a meal. They can make it as fast as 30 seconds. It’s quite popular with the men and women serving at Barksdale Air Force Base. Located 3 miles south of the Shreveport Gate entrance, they see quite a few servicewomen and servicemen. Then they spread the word around! Kersch says that get a lot of people in that have heard about Bodacious BBQ from folks serving overseas and had to come in and try it.
More of the best choices at Bodacious BBQ
Another specialty menu items include the Bochos. Pile nacho chips on a plate. Pour on a generous portion of nacho cheese and jalapenos. Then, pile on the chopped brisket. Sour cream and salsa come on the side. Also check out the Sliced Brisket Po-Boy. They cook the brisket for 14 hours so you know it will be juicy and beyond good. Barbecue sauce comes on the side but Kersch says you may not need it. For those who desire something else besides the BBQ, we suggest the chili cheese dogs, beef tips or hamburgers. What’s a great barbecue dinner without some decadent desserts? Try homemade bread pudding or beignet fries or peach cobbler (we suggest all three).
Check out their full menu on their website and swing by their location in South Bossier City next time you’re in the mood for some of the best barbecue in the Ark-La-Tex.
