SHREVEPORT, La. (Ark-La-Tex Weekend) - This weekend, twenty-four up-and-coming singers will perform and compete in the Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year Competition. This event, free to the public, goes on at the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church (900 Jordan Street). From their press release, “Hundreds of contestants auditioned for the competition by submitting three professionally recorded arias. From these, 24 contestants have been chosen to travel to Shreveport to participate in the semifinals on Saturday, at which each will sing one aria of his or her choice and one aria chosen by the judges. The judges then choose the top 10 contestants to compete in the Finalists’ Competition and Concert on Sunday. Each highly-qualified performer could win the top $10,000 prize of the $22,000+ in prizes awarded.”

Performances on Saturday, March 4, 2023 begin at 11 a.m. through 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The ten finalists selected advance to the Finals performance on Sunday, March 5 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
