(Ark-La-Tex Weekend) - It’s going to be a long weekend for many to honor the legacy of the civil rights leader. Plus Mardi Gras. Plus concerts. It’s going to be a great weekend.


Texas Music Friendly: A Celebration Event

6 p.m. - 11 p.m.

Marshall has become a Certified Texas Music Friendly Community and the are celebrating with a dinner and concert featuring Jake Williams, Wes Jeans with Pepper Holt and Trace Ellington.

20th Annual African American Voice Program: An Evening of Performance with Special Moments for Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.

6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

This program will feature a candlelit ceremony, a musical medley performed by Beverly Webb, Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Pledge to Service Cards, and a message delivered by Dr. James A. Morris. Plus a sneak peek at the new exhibition.

Krewe of Sobek Parade

1 p.m.

The Queensborough neighborhood hosts this first major Mardi Gras parade in Shreveport as “Sobek Travels the World”

Location - Starts at the State Fair of Louisiana and travels along Mertis Avenue, Lakeshore Drive, Missouri Avenue and Greenwood Road

Arkansas Country Music Awards winner Mae Estes hosts an album release party along with a few of the album co-writers.

Listen to Mozart’s Requiem performed by a string sextet from the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra.
