Shreveport hosts 74th National Square Dance Convention in 2025

Dancers from around the world are coming to strut their stuff

SHREVEPORT, La. (Ark-La-Tex Weekend) - The Southern Swingers Square Dancers are proud to announce that the 74th National Square Dance Convention will take place at the Shreveport Convention Center on June 25-28, 2025. According to the Chair, Ted Hofmeister, “about 3,000 dancers from across the country and around the world” will be coming the Ark-La-Tex for several days of dancing. You can watch square dancing, round dancing, line dancing, clogging, contra dancing and more.

Check out the educational parts of the convention. You can learn how square dancing costumes are made or see how a Square Dance Caller perfects their trade. Specific dates and times will be announced later.

Shreveport will be the second Louisiana city to host the prestigious event (New Orleans hosted in 1971). It is a great honor for the club that will also be celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2025. Other cities that have hosted in the past include Anaheim. Kansas City as well as San Antonio.

You can be a part of the convention. All you have to do is learn the steps. The Southern Swingers Square Dancers offer classes every Tuesday at Promenade Hall (5400 Benton Road) in Bossier City. Dance time begins at 7 p.m. It’s a great way to meet new people, learn something new and get a nice workout in.
