See The Color Purple the Musical on a local stage

SHREVEPORT, La. (Ark-La-Tex Weekend) -The twelfth season of Stage Center starts on January 5 and it’s going to be a great show. Witness The Color Purple: The Musical for four shows the first full weekend of January. The director is none other than hometown hero Zhalion Levingston. He’s the youngest black director to have a show play on Broadway.

This musical is based off the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the Steven Spielberg film. From their press release, “Featuring an array of national and local talent, the production is headlined by Emily Mwakitawa as Celie. Joining her onstage are Shayla D. Canady (Shug Avery), Briana Richmond (Sofia), Chaynler Joie (Nettie), Cordara Newson (Mister), Mikah Thomas (Harpo), Joie A. Smith (Squeak), and Tianna Andrews, Nolan Budgewater, Patrick Dennis, Darion Elie, Derrick Frierson, Courtnei Gabriel, Jordan Hollins, Mary King, Angela Lacey, Bryanna Lacey, Austin Miles, Teri Moore, Christian Perkins, Kezia L. Pigford, Selena Simmons, Lacee Smith, Braden Tucker, Jay Ward, and Tierra Williams.”
