The best plan to see Moody Gardens

An expert tells us the best way to explore the Galveston treasure on a weekend

GALVESTON, Tex. (Ark-La-Tex Weekend) - There’s so much to do at Moody Gardens in Galveston, it can seem overwhelming and a challenge for the vacation planner. Add to that the Holiday in the Gardens and you’ll be seeing a lot! Thankfully, Maddie Collins created this itinerary for when you go over a weekend during the holiday season. She recommends booking a reservation at the on site hotel. That way you can park your car. It’s an easy walk between the pyramids, attractions and hotel.

First Day

Start off the morning by exploring the Aquarium and Rainforest pyramids. Don’t miss the penguins and the forest creatures that fly and meander. After lunch, head over to the Ice Land Caribbean Christmas attraction. It’s kept at nine degrees so if you have a coat, bring it! Stop by the Shiver’s Ice Bar for a drink. Warm back up afterwards with a stroll along the Festival of Lights. Try some hot chocolate and make some fireside S’mores. If you go on a Thursday, bring a canned food and receive 2-for-1 Festival of Lights tickets.

Second Day

Ride out on Galveston Bay on the Colonel Paddlewheel boat in the morning. Spend some time in the afternoon ice skating and checking out the Discovery Pyramid. Finally see the Cirque Joyeaux Holiday Show. That exiting performance runs from December 17-30 and features Cirque-style acrobatics and Fire Knife Dancing.

Have fun exploring all the sights and sounds of Moody Gardens.
