Celebrate 30 years of Pumpkin Shine

Wonderfully decorated and painted pumpkins to get you in the Halloween spirit

SHREVEPORT, La. (Ark-La-Tex Weekend) - Southfield School along with Shreveport Parks and Recreation (SPAR) once again presents the annual Pumpkin Shine. On Tuesday, October 18th, 2022, come to Betty Virginia Park on Line Avenue between 4:00pm and 8:00pm for this walk to see all sorts of painted pumpkins.

KSLA CAFÉ INTERVIEW

Thirty years ago, a group of parents and a few teachers from Southfield School decided to create this pumpkin project based on what they saw in other cities. The first year was just for the classes at Southfield. Marketing and Communications Director of Southfield School Casey Cipoletti says, “since then we’ve turned it into a huge event with more than 65 displays from all over Shreveport-Bossier.”

Some of the displays are simple with three pumpkins. Cipoletti mentions that a few displays have 200-300 pumpkins! Each display can have its own theme. The displays will be judged and cash prizes will be awarded to school art departments. This year, some of the original organizers will judge the squash art and celebrate the 30th anniversary. See who wins at 7:30pm.

Parking is available around the park or you can ride the iShuttle from the Sears end of Mall St. Vincent a few blocks away. Admission is free to Pumpkin Shine. In addition to the pumpkin walk, enjoy live performances on the main stage. There’ll be food vendors at the park with food and drinks for purchase.
