Adventure year round at Moody Gardens

From the bottom of the oceans to the top of trees

GALVESTON, Tex. (Ark-La-Tex Weekend) - For decades, people have flocked to great pyramids on the northside of Galveston. Inside the triangular treasures, see all sorts of exotic wildlife from the tropical rainforests to the incredible aquarium. But did you know there’s a lot more to Moody Gardens? There’s something for everyone 365 days a year. With the changing of the seasons, the entertainment center also changes to keep things fresh and exciting.

One of the latest additions for 2022 to the Rainforest Pyramid is the Dynamic Dwellers exhibit. This focuses on the small animals that do big things in our world’s rainforest. See the Decomposers Gallery to witness how insects and animals help clean the forest. Watch Leafcutter Ants scurry here and there or marvel at the European Bee Colonies as they go about their work pollinating plants around Galveston. Continue your exploration throughout the rest of pyramid taking in the sights of rainforests from the Americas, Asia and Africa.

A short walk from the rainforest, stroll amongst the creatures of the deep at the Aquarium Pyramid. By far, the penguins are the most popular attractions. You can even schedule a Penguin Encounter (or a River Otter Encounter). Stop and learn all about how Moody Gardens supports the environment at the new Coral Reed Lab. Plus you can see lots of fish from local waters and around the world.

The third pyramid houses the Discovery Museum. This changes a few times every year with traveling exhibitions. Find out what’s currently on display by clicking here.

During the summer months, cool off at Palm Beach. It’s a private white sand beach with a lazy river, wave pool and a few quiet places to relax. 2022 saw the beginning of the Beats on the Beach concert series on Saturday nights. Listen to a DJ at the hottest beach party. The party ends with fireworks over Galveston Bay. For the more adventurous, head over to the Ropes Course and Zip Lines.

Speaking of Galveston Bay, how about a cruise? The Colonel Paddlewheel sets sails almost every day for fantastic views. Once in a while, splurge on the dinner cruise. Or, watch a special movie at the MG3D Theater, the 4D Special FX Theater or the Interactive Theater. Bring the clubs to play a round at the Moody Gardens Golf Course.

During the year, Moody Gardens hosts several events ranging from the Island Rideout and Bike Expo, to a special weekend for Scuba divers to explore the Gulf of Mexico, and the Moody Gardens Air, Car and Boat Show in August. Once November rolls around, the park transform into Holidays in the Gardens. Stroll the Festival of Lights is a mile long trail and go skating on the ice rink. Ice Land Ice Sculptures return in 2022. There’s also the Cirque Joy Show and New Year’s Palooza to look forward to.
