Many consider Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a day of service to honor the legacy of the civil rights leader. Here are a few events in the area.

NATCHITOCHES - SATURDAY, JANUARY 15

Echoes of Civil Rights in Natchitoches

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum | 800 Front Street - 2:00 pm

The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity Inc., Theta Chi Chapter at NSU presents the history of their fraternity including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They will also share the history of civil rights in Natchitoches. For more info, click here.

Annual MLK Parade

Starting at Jefferson High School and heading down MLK. 3:00 pm

Presented by the Marion County Diversified Civic & Social Concerns Organization.

SHREVEPORT - MONDAY, JANUARY 17

Centenary MLK Service Day

Centenary College - 6:00 am - 3:00 pm

Martin Luther King Day of Service

Mary Spring AME Church - 4427 Linwood Ave., - 11:00 am

Church members will celebrate with a Free Food Giveaway lasting until the food is gone. Masks are required by all persons in the vehicle. Food will be loaded in the trunk or back of vehicle. For more info, contact Cynthia Holman at 318-564-9427.

2022 Krewe of Harambee Parade

Downtown Shreveport - 1:00 pm

The theme for 2022 is “Remember the Time” that reflects back on the krewe’s past and the spirit of Dr. King. For more info, click here.

MLK Day Celebration

MLK Recreation Center - 660 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr - 9:00 am

Legacy Garden Mural Project

BDJ Center - 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Observe a day of service in celebration of MLK Day. The very first full color, community-based mural in the City of Natchitoches will be unveiled. The day will consist of preparing the mural site for paint and cleaning up the area surrounding the Legacy Garden where the mural will be located. For more info, click here.

Carrying on the Dream
