Everyday free deals for Veterans

While we honor those who served on Veteran’s Day with special deals, there are many more deals that are available year round. Recently we received a list from Veterans Affairs about some of the best free and discounted services out there for veterans. Here are a few of the top picks for free deals for Veterans. For more great benefits, check out VetResources and sign up.

VetTix - Started in 2008, this site distributed over nine million free and discounted tickets to major sporting events, concerts and more. Currently serving military, veterans and family of those Killed in Action are eligible.

VA Apps - There’s plenty of free apps to download for your smartphone that will help you. For more information, check out the KSLA Salutes segment.

Free National Park Passes - Veterans with a permanent disability can apply for an Access Pass which grants free admission to the National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands. Applicants must provide documentation of permanent disability and residency or citizenship. For those currently serving, a Free Annual Military Pass remains an option. Orders by mail may cost $10.

Free Space-A Flights - Space-A is short for Space Available. For veterans with a permanent and total service-connected disability rating, they have the potential to fly on Department of Defense aircraft. Space is limited and those wanting to fly Space-A should have alternate plans in place. Check out the website for further details and restrictions. It’s available at certain bases.

Free Flu Shots - If you have a Veterans Health Identification Card, you’re already eligible for a no cost flu shot at any Walgreens location. Bring your card and a photo ID and after the shot, Walgreens will update your immunization with the VA. You can also get a free flu shot at your local VA health care facility.

Free Video Games - Games to Grunts is a social connectivity program by the non-profit Outperform, Serve, and Develop that provides access to video games for the military community.

Free LinkedIn Premium - It’s daunting transitioning back to civilian life. Tech giant LinkedIn wants to help. U.S. Service members and veterans can sign up for a 1-year subscription to their Premium service. Not only is it a good place to establish your professional identity but veterans can take advantage of the special “Transition from Military to Civilian Employment” course.

Find Free Local Events - Team Red, White & Blue proudly serves veterans by providing opportunities in over 200 communities for vets to come together and enrich their lives through physical and social activity.

Free Audio Books for Veterans with Disabilities - The National Library Service is providing sponsored events specifically for veterans with disabilities. The audio books will feature content in audio-described movie nights, book clubs, health fairs and touch tours of local museums.
