The Zwolle Tamale Fiesta marks its 44th year this weekend. One October 11th – 12th, the annual festival celebrates the Spanish and Native American heritage of the region and it is all centered around a local cuisine the town is famous for, the Zwolle Tamale.
As always, there will be more delicious tamales on hand than you can eat but there is so much more. You can learn how to whip up your own at tamale-making demonstrations, shop all the arts and crafts booths, cheer on your favorites during arm wrestling and tamale eating contests, attend the parade or even participate in some street dancing.
If you are worried about packing on extra pounds, there will be a 1K walk and a 5K run early Saturday morning to help you work off some of those extra Zwolle Tamale calories you consume at the fiesta.
Friday and Saturday afternoons at the fiesta really start to kick off with live music. Here are the scheduled performances.
4:00-5:00 PM – MUSIC & STUDIO B DANCE CO.
5:00 PM – LIVE MUSIC BY BUSTER AND SARAH
