Turns out Space Camp is just as fun for adults
Huntsville, Alabama is a city of makers. After making its name as a railroad hub and then an army town, Huntsville is now known as Rocket City USA. Here you will find the U.S. Space & Rocket Center – The showcase and educational arm of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. Here, visitors can marvel at artifacts from past space flight missions, and explore replicas of several rockets and the International Space Station.
This is also the home of Space Camp, where kids (and yes, adults) can spend multiple days undergoing astronaut training!
What makes this hands-on museum truly special are the people who work there. Guided tours are conducted by retired rocket scientists and astronauts! Plan your visit by first going to their website.
The Southern Weekend’s Molly McKinney was invited to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center to undergo extensive astronaut training, and meet with a retired NASA astronaut who has flown in two space missions.
If Rocket City might be a little too far away, you can always check out the Space Shuttle Columbia Museum in Hemphill, TX.
