As restaurants across the United States struggle to keep their doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic, a coalition of restaurants are trying to do something about the problem. The new campaign, called The Great American Takeout, encourages folks to order a delivery or a to-go meal from their favorite restaurant on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. It has repeated every Tuesday since then albeit at a smaller scale.
The national challenge was started by a group of restaurants including Veggie Grill, Panera Bread, Noodles & Company, El Torito, Jason’s Deli, The Habit Burger Grill, Lemonade, Modern Market, Primanti Brothers, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, among others.

America's restaurants are in crisis. On March 24, we’re asking Americans to support the restaurant industry by joining #TheGreatAmericanTakeout and eating a delivery or pick-up meal. Will you commit to eating takeout on 3/24 to help save our nation’s struggling restaurants? Share this graphic to your feed or Story tagged with #TheGreatAmericanTakeout & help spread the word! 🥡🍟🌮
All you have to do to participate in the Great American Takeout is order at least one meal from your favorite restaurant — it can be a local or a national hot spot. Or take this opportunity to try a new Mom and Pop place. Post a picture on social media using #TheGreatAmericanTakeout, and encourage others to (safely) get food from their favorite place, too! Hopefully, many of you will participate and will be patient in the drive-thru lines and the curbside service spaces. For more info on the background of this event, click here.
