SRAC’s September to remember

The hard working crew at the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC) continues to bring exciting art to the Ark-La-Tex. Great exhibitions are in the works to open that will make September a month to remember. Both Artspace Shreveport (708 Texas St.) and Central Artstation (801 Crockett St.) hosts many event in September.

Wednesday, September 4 – Downtown Shreveport Artwalk & Culture Calendar 365 Kickoff

Not only will you be able to see the artwork on display during Artwalk, but meet your local arts organizations and learn all about their upcoming seasons and opportunities. Also, pick up the Culture Calendar produced by 318 Forun. Within the pages, you’ll find a year’s worth of arts and entertainment listings from everywhere in Northwest Louisiana.

Wednesday, September 18 – Parting the Veil with Adena Helm Exhibition Opening

Helm creates a narrative with her visually layered paintings picturing Louisiana birds, African animals and even household pets.  Her work is full of symbolism as she uses the animals to depict different versions of how she sees herself and others with their varying personalities.

Saturday, September 21 -Veterans Songwriting Workshop

Songs of Survivors

10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Central Artstation 2nd floor conference room

This workshop is designed to provide Veterans the opportunity to learn the craft of songwriting.  Participants tell service-related stories through lyrics and music in a safe, supportive and empowering environment. The experience allows participants to find power in their voice while developing and strengthening relationships with individuals who have shared similar experiences. Veterans can go to to register and find out more.

Shreveport Common Scrawl Crawl Writing Marathon

8:30 am – 6:30 pm

Starting at Central Artstation

Put on your writing caps and be inspired by Shreveport Common. Caddo Parish Poet Laureate Ashley Mace Havird will facilitate this inspirational event where you will stop at places around the Common to create literary work. Write about whatever you want. Registration is required by clicking here.
