Redbuds are blooming at the Redbud Festival

Spring is here. That means it’s time for the Louisiana Redbud Festival in Vivian, La. It’s a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Award Winning Event. The festivities starts on March 13 with the opening of the carnival. 2019 marks the first year of the LRCA Redbud Rodeo on March 15 and 16. Other events include the NCMC Ruby Collins Memorial Redbud Treasure Hunt, the Redbud Barrel Race, and Friday Night Live at the train depot.

Saturday, March 16, 2019 is the big day. Start the day at the Pancake Breakfast followed by the 19th Annual Louisiana Redbud 5K Run & Health Walk. Downtown Vivian comes alive starting around 9:00am with arts, crafts, fun, and lots of music. At 2:00pm, thousands of spectators will line up along Highway 1 to watch the big parade. After that, the Annual Louisiana Redbud Festival Car Show rolls through the street with several awards up for grabs.  For a complete list of events, click here.

The eastern redbud trees ceris canadensis are found all across the south and you can’t miss the light to dark pink flowers that bloom in the early spring. It’s a welcome sight as Spring arrives. Native Americans roasted the seeds for food and ate the redbud flowers.
