January art openings at SRAC

The Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC) kicks off 2019 with great January art events.

Tracy McComic SRAC

A Gem of a Journey

Opening Night Reception: Wednesday, January 16  5:00pm-7:00pm

Exhibition Dates: January 16 – February 15

Location: Central ARTSTATION (801 Crockett St.)

Artist Tracy McComic popularized metal clay sculpted art pieces and jewelry in Northwest Louisiana with her “Wired and Sassy” creations including the flame atop the Kallenberg Artist Tower at Central ARTSTATION, a phoenix, a bee on its hive and a replica of the Spring Street Museum.  McComic will debut her first solo visual art exhibition with more than 40 paintings making up a show intended to reveal the creativity that helped her survive childhood trauma and set off on a journey of healing.

Seize the Light SRAC

The Art of Tamara Robertson

Opening Night Exhibition: Friday, January 25  5:00pm-8:00pm

Exhibition Dates: January 25 – February 23

Location: artspace (708 Texas St.) upstairs

Robertson is a Texas Native who now lives and works in her studio on Caddo Lake.  She describes her work as everyday objects taken out of their ordinary context and placed into an unfamiliar and enchanted setting. Each piece is made of a repetition of recognizable individual elements which result in an unfamiliar new object, ranging from discarded firecracker tubes to soda pop caps, to buttons, to scrap hardware.

On the Wall SRAC

On the Wall

Opening Night Exhibition: Friday, January 25   5:00pm-8:00pm

Exhibition Dates: January 25 – February 23

Location: artspace (708 Texas St.) main floor

Northwest Louisiana artists Ben Moss and Jeromie Journell have been chosen to take on the walls of artspace in the On The Wall exhibiton.  This is the 2nd exhibition where artists are painting large-scale artworks directly on the wall of the mainspace floor of artspace at 801 Texas St. in downtown Shreveport.  The public can watch Journell and Moss create the “On the Wall” experience while dining at Parish Taceaux beginning January 14, 2019.
