It’s an artistic HBCU homecoming and you’re invited

Grambling State University and Southern University Shreveport are having a homecoming in the artistic world. From September to December 2020, everyone can enjoy the Homecoming 2020 Artists Reunion. Along with the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC), resident artists Roshanda Spears and Eric Francis are welcoming back many graduates of the two local Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) for a homecoming series of workshops, master classes, a performing arts show and a visual art exhibition. And all of it will be free to the public.

The Homecoming Visual Art Exhibition

Visual artists with ties to the local HBCUs have been invited to share some of their favorite artworks for a massive exhibition at Artspace in downtown Shreveport. Resident Artist and Curator, Eric Francis is producing a Visual Exhibition to include Media Arts, 2D and 3D Artworks, display at ARTSPACE as part of the SUSLA & GSU HOMECOMING 2020 Artists Reunion.  Join the artists, organizations and collages as they showcase some of the amazing alumni artists! The opening reception starts at 5:30 pm on Friday, October 23. Afterwards, the exhibit continues until December 19.

Homecoming Day Celebration

Meet alumni and share memories from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Saturday. October 24. Please follow Artspace’s social distancing guidelines for both events.

The Performing Arts Show

Local GSU and SUSLA have been asked to submit performances and contribute to a Finale Performance.  Everything will be put together for a special virtual performance on Saturday, October 24 at 7:00 pm. Watch it again Sunday, October 25 at 2:00 pm. For more info on the showcase, click here.

Zoom Master Class Series

If you’ve thought about becoming a professional artists, then you need to check out theses classes. Everyone can attend one or more of the workshops slated from September 10-October 26. Class subjects include painting and visual arts to dance and performing arts. In addition, several artists will host Master Classes featuring singing and music. Featured instructors include Brenda Wimberly, Brent Latin, Dr. Sharon F. Green, Cbabi Bayoc, Sonya Hester and Fred Irby, III. Dates vary but you can attend all of the classes on Zoom from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Click here for the full schedule.
