Many great things are planned for Monday, January 20. The national holiday celebrating the legendary civil rights leader means that many of us will enjoy a day off. If you’re looking for something to do commemorate his legacy, here is a list of events for Martin Luther king Jr. Day.

12th Annual MLK Service Day

7:30am – Centenary College (2911 Centenary Blvd.)

Centenary students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community partners will work together to landscape, clean, and complete other service projects around Shreveport-Bossier. This kicks off Dream Week to celebrate Dr. King and the civil rights movement. Learn more here.

Krewe of Harambee Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Mardi Gras Parade

1:00pm – Downtown Shreveport

Celebrate the legacy of Dr. King in Mardi Gras style. The parade starts at the corner of Milam and Texas Streets. Then, it rolls through downtown and ends up at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium. Learn more here.


Martin Luther King Day Celebration/MCDCSCO

6:00pm – Marion County Community Center at 512 Haywood St.

The Marion County Diversified Civic and Social Concern Organization (MCDCSO) celebrates MLK Jr. with a traditional banquet fundraiser. Learn more info here.


5th Annual MLK Day Parade

11:30am – Front Street ( Check-in and line-up will begin at 10am)

Watch local churches, social groups, youth groups, bikes, 4-wheelers, Banks, horses, and more parade down Front Street in downtown. Learn more here.


33nd Annual MLK Parade Celebration

10:00am – Downtown

In addition to the parade through downtown, experience activities including a basketball tournament, youth rally, and more. For more info, check out the Facebook event page.

MLK Service of Remembrance

7:00pm – Cottrell Chapel Cme Church (1104 Searcy Ave.)

Day of Service
