Area Apollo 11 50th anniversary events

Landing on the moon changed the world. Fifty years ago, Apollo 11 with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins orbited and landed on the moon. The event, watched around the world, opened new worlds of scientific research. Many events are planned in the Ark-La-Tex to commemorate the Apollo 11 50th anniversary.

Get Crafty for Adults: Button Moon Collage

Cran Lucas of the Shreveport/Bossier Astronomical Society will talk about the lunar landing. Refreshments will be provided.

Learn and watch videos from the moon landing with Joey Matheson. Make crafts and participate in community memory sharing.

Moon Walking: Apollo 50th Anniversary

Mooringsport Library. 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Participate in a Moon Walking contest. Watch historic footage of the Apollo 11 mission. Have a lot of fun.

Eat Like an Astronaut

Gilliam Library. 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Teens can test their tastebuds with freeze dried ice cream cubes. Art activities are planned.

Kids can hear stories about the moon while painting a beautiful picture of the moon.

Apollo 11: First Steps Edition IMAX film

Sci-Port Discovery Center in Shreveport.

Follow the moments of the Apollo 11 mission presented with never-before-seen 70mm footage. See the launch of the Saturn V rocket on the BIG screen. The film lasts for 47 minutes.
