The Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet first performed The Nutcracker in 1977. The tradition continues for the 42nd year with performances on December 14th at 6:30 pm and December 15th at 3:00 pm at Riverview Theater in downtown. There will also be three free performances for more than 5,000 Caddo and Bossier Parish elementary school students on December 13th.
Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet’s The Nutcracker features a cast of more than 100 local dancers and performers. It is led by their Artistic Director Kendra Meiki and guest artists Marena Perez and Daniel Ramirez Saez. The music will be performed live by The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. It will be conducted by SMB Music Director Kermit Poling.
As part of their on-going outreach programs, SMB invites all third graders in Caddo and Bossier Parish to participate in “The Nutcracker Ballet Experience”. This project is designed to provide a comprehensive arts education opportunity to more than 5,000 area students. Many of these students might not otherwise have the chance to experience classical ballet. On Friday, December 13th, students will fill the newly renovated Riverview Theater to see a free performance of Act I of SMB’s The Nutcracker. This outreach program is made possible thanks to generous support from the Louisiana Division of the Arts and Bossier Arts Council.
